When FDNY paramedic Michael Toomey, photographed with his family, was promoted to lieutenant on Wednesday, his thoughts immediately went to his firefighter dad who died in the line of duty in 1987. “I was 4 years old when he died,” Toomey, 36, told the Daily News before his promotion at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York, Brooklyn “He dedicated his life very literally to protection. A cement truck struck and killed a 68-year-old woman walking with a cane in Brooklyn. She was crossing at 49th St. and New Utrecht Ave. in Borough Park when the victim fell under the truck and died at the scene. Witnesses said she had just left a nearby grocery when she was hit.
